'The seventh and eighth figures represent the mysterious square, built with seven pieces: then with a corner clipped off, and still the same seven pieces employed.' 
This is a TRUE tangram, if both the shapes are considered.  The clipped square has, indeed, a small spike which is not evident in hand-pictures.

'La settima e ottava figura rappresentano il misterioso quadrato, costruito con sette pezzi, e poi con un angolo mancante, e sempre usando gli stessi sette pezzi'.
Questo è un VERO tangram, se si considerano entrambe le figure. In realtà, il quadrato tagliato ha un piccolo spunzone che non è evidente in figure fatte a mano.
